My continuing or advancing classes and workshops are for colored pencil artists experienced in the media or have taken my basics class.  If you have had experience elsewhere or not in my style, I would be glad to review your previous work for placement in this class.  

#3  Advancing in Colored Pencil Painting:  Portraits - Capturing a likeness of a person or pet.​*

Students learn the how to render a likeness of a person or pet in colored pencil.  You are encouraged to work from a photo reference of your own.  Advancing in your work thru a subject matter of your choosing.  Source reference is the students.  Working and blending to obtain a painterly appearance and saturation of color whether on your surface, paper or sanded from your photo reference.  (All techniques will be demonstrated and then practiced by student on their own projects.) ​


Supply list will be sent when deposit is received.  I will provide: electric pencil sharpeners for use here, and work table seating.  Please bring your own photo reference for your project.


#4  Advancing in Colored Pencil Painting:  Sanded Surfaces

The class is geared for students who have taken my first class in colored pencil or are advancing in working with colored pencil.  Email me if you have questions.

Class will be working on sanded surfaces:  paper as well as pastel hardboard.  I will provide both surfaces for you to work on.  All students will work on their own individual pieces (from their own reference materials).  The class is a continuation of previous classes where basics have been learned.  (All techniques will be demonstrated and then practiced by student on their own projects.) ​ 


Supply list will be sent when deposit is received.  I will provide: electric pencil sharpeners for use here, and work table seating.  Please bring your own photo reference for your project.​​​

#1  Two Day - Beginning Painting in Colored Pencil - March 9 & 10, 2017, 10 AM - 4:00 PM  (Call or Email if your interested) 


The class is geared for students who have had experience in basic art drawing in colored pencil, although I will review some basic knowledge if needed.  

Tuition: $130.00  per 2 Day class (Receipt of a payment reserves your place.) No refunds on deposit.  Pack you lunch.

​Location:  My home studio in Powhatan (10 minutes from 288) west on Robious Rd/Huguenot Trail.  (I will send directions upon request.)

Limit:  6 students per class 

Class will cover basics of colored pencil-stroke, layering, burnishing and blending with unique tools.  You'll also learn to speed up the process with water soluble pencils. (All will be demonstrated and then practiced by student, on projects worked on paper surfaces.)  Students can move to my Progressing Classes for additional study see 2017 class schedule to the right..  

Supply list will be sent when deposit is received.  I will provide a project with surfaces, several tools, electric pencil sharpeners for use here, and work table seating.    My Preference is for Prismacolor brand pencils, but you will have a chance to try many different brands.

#5 Landscapes In Colored Pencil*​​

We will go over techniques and composition of Landscape drawing.  Students will be encouraged to work from their own reference in colored pencil.  Class assumes you know all the basics of colored pencil: stroke, layering, and burnishing.  Working and blending to obtain a painterly appearance and saturation of color whether on your surface, paper or sanded from your photo reference.  (All techniques will be demonstrated and then practiced by student on their own projects.) Class will include travel sketching and an outing to practice that skill.

Supply list will be sent when deposit is received.  I will provide: electric pencil sharpeners for use here, and work table seating.  Please bring your own photo reference for your project.

#2 Advancing In Colored Pencil:  Student Choice Three Classes offered per week (see yearly schedule).

We will approach many subjects of you choosing: Portraits, Landscapes, Still Life and Artist Travel Journaling


I will be teaching Colored Pencil working on many different surfaces, of student's choosing.  Stonehenge paper, Sanded surfaces on Pastel papers and Pastelboard, Mylar, Suede Mat Board and even Travertine Marble.
